Waterfront carpentry demands heavier timbers, corrosion-resistant bolts, and deep pilings that will not shift when boat wakes and winter storms roll across the lake.

Whether you own a weekend lake house on Lake Gaston or Kerr Lake, a waterfront lot in Sanford or Pinehurst, or a private pond acreage property in Wake Forest, Rolesville, or Chatham County, your dock is where everyone gathers.
We build waterfront structures with the same heavy-timber joinery, clean miters, and zero-shortcut framing that earned us a 100% recommend rating across Central North Carolina. Need shoreline grading or a matching house deck too? Explore our related work:
Every waterfront project below was framed and finished by Deck By Deck.
Every shoreline has its own bank slope, bottom composition, and water depth. We plan the layout on site so your pier sits level and true.

Building over water requires heavier structural specifications than a standard backyard deck. Here is how we frame each waterfront component and what drives the price of a custom dock or pier:
Key Cost Drivers: (1) Total walkway length and platform square footage; (2) Water depth and bottom conditions for setting pilings; (3) Roofed additions such as an octagonal gazebo or covered slip; (4) Surface material choice (2x6 treated plank vs. capped composite/PVC); and (5) Shoreline bank stairs, bulkheads, or rip-rap stone stabilization.
A stationary pier starts with a poured concrete or heavy timber abutment anchored well back into stable shoreline soil so spring rains never wash out the entry point. From the bank, we set pairs of heavy treated pilings at regular bents, tied together with double 2x10 or 2x12 headers and diagonal bracing.
We size walkway widths so two people can comfortably pass carrying coolers, fishing gear, or paddleboards without feeling pinched, and we crown-check every stringer so the walkway runs straight and flat from the bank to the terminal platform.
Open water reflects heat all afternoon. Adding an octagonal timber gazebo or hip-roof pavilion at the end of your pier turns it into an outdoor living room where your family can sit in the breeze out of the sun.
Because lake winds create strong uplift on waterfront roofs, we anchor gazebo posts directly into the primary pier pilings and frame the roof rafters with structural steel straps, collar ties, and exterior sheathing topped with high-wind architectural shingles or metal roofing.
Whether you are mooring a pontoon boat, a bass boat, or a pair of jet skis, we lay out L-shaped, T-shaped, or U-shaped slip configurations tailored to your watercraft beam and draft depth.
We leave clean perimeter faces for dock bumpers, cleats, and swim ladders, and countersink all deck fasteners so bare feet, life jackets, and tow ropes never snag on protruding hardware.
Boat wakes and stormwater runoff from your yard can quickly undercut a raw clay lake bank. Because we operate our own excavation and grading machinery, we can reshape eroding banks, lay heavy non-woven geotextile filter fabric, and armor the shoreline with rip-rap granite stone or a tied-back timber bulkhead wall.
Stabilizing the bank protects your property line, keeps red clay sediment out of your cove, and locks the landward end of your pier into solid earth.
Sun and water eventually weather surface boards long before deep-set pilings reach the end of their life. If your dock surface is splintered, warped, or missing boards, we inspect every piling, cross-brace, and header band from the bank to the end of the pier.
We strip the worn decking, replace any soft stringers or rusted bolts with new treated lumber and hot-dipped galvanized hardware, and install fresh 2x6 wood or low-maintenance composite boards so your pier feels brand new.
Portable chairs blow into the lake during summer storms and clutter up your pier deck. Our built-in wraparound timber benches are framed directly into the structural perimeter posts of your pier or gazebo, with comfortable angled backrests and mitered seat boards that never blow away.
On steep lake lots, we also build heavy multi-stringer timber staircases with intermediate landings and graspable handrails from your back deck down the hillside to the pier abutment.
