Our Story

No subcontractors. No shortcuts. Just honest work.

Since founding Deck By Deck in 2004, owner Vance “Van” Moore has kept the business rooted in one simple rule: build every deck, porch, pier, and bridge the way you would build it at your own home. When you call us for an estimate, you are not meeting a commissioned salesperson who hands your job off to a rotating subcontractor crew.

Van Moore and the Deck By Deck crew are on your job site every day from the first shovel of red clay to the final coat of stain. Because we saw early on how often sloped yards and poor drainage undermined outdoor structures, we invested in our own excavation, grading, and culvert pipe equipment so we can prepare the earth, pour deep footings, and frame the timber as one accountable team.

Our Standards

Four principles behind every build.

Whether we are replacing a driveway culvert, framing a two-story composite deck in Raleigh, or building an octagonal pier gazebo on Lake Gaston, our standards never change.

Deck By Deck LLC · Central North Carolina
01 / Solid Ground

Fix the Grade and Water Before Framing

Timber lasts decades longer when water is not pooling around the posts. We grade sloped lots, bury gutter downspouts in rigid PVC pipe, install French drains, and pour deep concrete footings into undisturbed subsoil before framing begins.

02 / Heavy Timber

Hand-Sorted Lumber & Thru-Bolted Hardware

We frame with #1 grade southern yellow pine, notch and thru-bolt our carry beams to 6x6 posts, flash every house ledger board with metal and membrane flashing, and space joists tightly so floors never bounce underfoot.

03 / One Job

One Project at a Time From Start to Finish

We do not tear up five backyards at once and disappear for weeks. When our trailer pulls onto your property, your project has our crew’s full focus until the final walkthrough.

04 / Community

Showing Up for Our North Carolina Neighbors

When Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, Van Moore and our crew loaded trailers with tools, equipment, and building supplies to help mountain families clear roads and rebuild safe access. Supporting local schools, youth programs, and neighbors in need is part of who we are.

How We Work

How a project comes together, start to finish.

Every build follows the same disciplined sequence. Nothing gets covered up until the structure underneath is square, level, and anchored to last.

Deck By Deck was founded in 2004, giving our crew more than 20 years of hands-on experience building custom decks, porches, lake piers, timber bridges, and site grading projects across Central North Carolina.
No. We do not use piece-rate subcontractors. The same crew that walks your property for the estimate operates the grading equipment, digs the footings, and builds your deck, porch, or dock.
After two decades of building outdoor structures across North Carolina, we saw firsthand that most structural deck and porch failures start in the dirt below the footings. By running our own excavation, grading, and drainage machinery, we make sure every structure sits on level, well-drained ground.
